Sounds Like

"Like The Cure all swirled up with Billie Holiday, and the voice of an angel dipped in gin. "TOMORROW BLUES" is an illicit affair, a stroll through dark Manhattan and a cigarette in the rain." - SERGE BIELANKO (MARAH)

""TOMORROW BLUES" is a great New York City record. It's beautiful and scary, joyous and sad. CHRISTINE SMITH is also perhaps the most natural, effortless musician I've ever known." - DAVE BIELANKO (MARAH)

"Listen to the fire-escape romance of “The Car Alarm Choir Lullaby”, the nocturnal reflections of “Age Of Indifference”, or the compressed melodrama of “Down The Street”, and you can’t help but think they don’t write ‘em like this anymore." - Paul Cantin (NO DEPRESSION)

"F***ing brilliant!" - TOMMY STINSON (REPLACEMENTS)

"Real life heartbreaking confessions with 5am swagger and sweet haunting melodies." - JESSE MALIN

"Velvet ropes and fine wine...CHRISTINE SMITH gives us "TOMORROW BLUES", jangled tunes that soar and swoon. Black light cabaret from the other side of life. Midnight never sounded so good." - Starr Tucker (NY WASTE)

"Thoroughly surprising and unconventional, "TOMORROW BLUES" is a triumph of a debut record." - Anthony D'Amato (UPSTAGE MAGAZINE)

"This could be the breakout disc of the year..." - (VILLAGERECORDS.COM)

"Part chanteuse, part honky tonk, and all heart...Smith's introspective songs are at once sad and funny; her melodies twist and turn like acrobats, proving irresistible." - Lisa Ianucci (ENCORE MAGAZINE)

""Tomorrow Blues" is a genuine diamond in the rough and I really like it an awful lot." **** - Brett Hickman (STATIC MULTIMEDIA)

"The music of Smith are, however, substantial differently than what you expect now. It has, however, attitude but no muscle balls. That is not also the intention. [She is] the striking little girl with the old instruments." - Patrick Donders (HANX.NET MAGAZINE)

Originally from Queens, NY, Christine Smith was a child prodigy and an only child who began playing piano at the age of four. A year later, she started taking piano and voice lessons with retired Vaudeville performer Lila Sharkey and later had classical training under partial scholarship with retired Juilliard teacher Helena Arkus.

Christine’s been performing in public since the age of six, and eventually went on to learn drums, guitar, bass, autoharp, and most recently…the accordion. She began songwriting as a teenager, and was so heavily influenced by European/British music, culture and history, she decided that she would move to London to pursue her music, and do some exploring and experimenting in life.

She spent over a decade living in England performing Jazz Standards in London’s finest hotels and restaurants, and also hanging out in dark, smoky, Goth clubs. While continuing to write and develop her own music, she ended up working in theatre and radio as a musical director, actress and writer in comedy, performing in London and at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland.

Since returning to NYC, Christine has found work playing piano/keyboard/bvs...touring worldwide and recording with such diverse acts as Crash Test Dummies, Jesse Malin, and Ryan Adams and Marah.

Christine is now the newest member of Marah, and the band just finished recording the forthcoming January 2008 release, "Angels Of Destruction!" (Yep Roc Records). Meanwhile, Christine has begun recording her second solo record, with David Bielanko producing.

Hi Christine,

I of course first hear you because of Jesse. Then I found out you also are a solo artist. Your CD is amazing and I am very impressed that you did nearly everything on it.

My CD is coming next month and it would be great if you have a listen.

Peace,
John
